Two weeks have slipped by since we last wrote.  We enjoyed conference, but on Sunday, our 2 year old grandson became very ill and in a few short hours ended up in critical care.  We prayed through the long night of October 1st, that little Alex would survive.  Although Alex is still in critical care, he has passed some giant hurdles.  The social worker presented the family with a bag and as Alex makes steps in improvement, a bead is added to the bag.  There are many beads in the bag and more are added daily.  There have been many miracles and he is well on his way to recovery.  We were thrilled when the ECMO was able to be removed earlier this week and his mom and dad got to hold him.

Tuesday, we got to go to the Temple with our missionaries preparing to complete their mission and those who have reached milestones of 6, 12, and 18 months.  Every six weeks, it becomes harder to say goodbye to wonderful young men and women.  But on a bright note, it is great to welcome new missionaries to the Missouri St Louis Mission.  This week we had fifteen new arrivals.

It was not our normal week; it was mission tour.  So our President and his wife have been in overdrive, saying goodbye, getting to know new missionaries and then having visitors arrive to not only stay with them but to help teach and strengthen the missionaries.  President and Sister Bateman shared wonderful messages.  We are thankful for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Today as we do every Saturday, we are in the Temple.  We have grown to love the people we serve with in the Temple.  Today I had a bride (probably in her sixties) who was sealed to her sweetheart.  How neat is that?

Building along my walk to the office We enjoy attending a small branch in St Louis, Missouri.  Although we have only been coming for a few weeks, among the few regulars new people have show up each week.  I talked with the Primary President today.  I asked her how many children in the primary.  She said there are different children every week, but on a good day about twelve children attend. George & Mack--cousins--who would've guessed! We met a neat member at the Branch a few weeks ago; Mack Abercrombie.  George helped him do some simple family work--finding some census records for his father and grandparents.  He then decided to send it to his sister, Nancy, who is a missionary at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City.  She found multiple generations for Mack.  As George looked at the family names--he found a familiar name that was in his line.  He checked on Relative Search and found that Mack's mother is his 11th cous...

The banner the Young Women took to Camp It's a record: St Louis hit 108 degrees yesterday.  The previous record of 107 degrees was set a few years ago on July 22, 1901.  We had a storm in the night and the temperature is only 90 degrees today with humidity of only 42%; a pretty nice day. Branch President David Fingle Last Sunday we were witness to the changing of the presidency of the Pagedale Branch.  In the twenty six year history a president has been called to serve from their home ward.  Our new president lives within the boundaries of the branch and is a wonderful man. There was a strong spirit present in the meeting and the news was exciting to the members.  Many of us believe the change will help move the branch forward in growth and acceptance. Winter came back--it was cold! This week it was Winter again!  Our lowest temperature was 16 degrees F.  But walking to work in the sunshine actually felt warmer than the cloudy windy days in the twenties.  This is the magnolia tree from last week--the beautiful blooms couldn't handle the cold snap Seventeen missionaries left the Missouri St Louis Mission this week after completing their service. By Saturday the tulips were out! Tuesday it was Transfer day and bitter cold with the blowing wind and cloudy sky; oh yeah and the snow.  Eight new missionaries arrived in the afternoon (with no coats on as they said it was warm in Salt Lake City, Utah). Later we went to the Mission Home to get to know the new Elders and Sisters.
